Sheep Herding is fun

If you have a breed of dog that was created for the sole purpose of working sheep you are one lucky person. The one dog that is most known for this job is the border collie. There are competitions all over the USA and they are so much fun to watch. It is amazing to watch these dogs do their thing. You train them in the basics and they do the rest.

One thing I have noticed, however, that it is very difficult to find a trainer. There are many books on the subject and they are very good. What you is a farm filled with sheep. I take my dog to my friends farm in Mount Dora, Florida. She has some great sheep to work with because they are energetic. She is a great trainer.

My dog Tara is just learning but she has already picked up alot of skill. It was auto pilot with her. She sees sheep and off she goes. You just have to direct her. You would be amazed at how quickly she learns. She also has a great temperment for this. You don't really want to work with a crazy border. You want your dog to listen to you.

Tara gets so excited when she sees the sheep that nothing else matters. She is fixated on them. She will not hurt them. That is what makes her a good dog. Some dogs with grip (bite) the sheep and that is okay as long as they don't hurt them. I hope to someday enter her is a trial.

Going to a competition is so exciting. It is not like agility because the experience really shows us humans just how smart our dogs are. Agility is a great sport too. Don't get me wrong. I love to watch agility tournaments. Those dogs are super athletes. If you go on YouTube you will see both sports. Check it out. You will be amazed.
